The unit of everyone as manifested in very different levels of unity. In the vital level, man is bound to life primarily through their bodies and physical abilities. The psychic level is defined by its "interiority", ie the area of emotion that is irreducible to the purely physical. The maximum level of unity in the spiritual level, because in it we find operations as self-awareness, abstract knowledge, reflection or the ability to put ourselves purposes. At this level forecasting future or the free act occurs, operations that are by no means confined to the realm of spacetime material. In the metaphysical level maximum unity of the human person manifests.
That everyone "subsists" means having an excellent degree of existence. Is the person itself. Christian philosophy knew detected in being the so-called "formal constituent of the person" and put in it the true sanctuary of everyone. This is the meaning of "dat esse Form" which was a scholastic adage that can be translated as "form gives being," or, if preferred, being, existence into the body through the human form .
Thus, there would be three elements (being, soul and body), not two (body and soul) in every human person. In every man, being into the body through the soul, and in this order. It is true that this existential subsistence is manifested by some features, such as the inability to communicate or individuality, which often seem to suggest individualism. This has traditionally been one of the criticisms of the process that was putting the foundation of human dignity, detriment, at least in appearance, other noble characteristics as the faculties of thinking or wanting in existence. Indeed, it seems that if individual existence which is formally the definition of person, you can suggest a sort of overly personal, incommunicable or isolated from the human character.
But things are not what they seem. The lack of communication of the human person only suggests independence and autonomy in being, but does not imply the denial of customization processes and love in which the person gives and gives to others. Likewise with reasonableness, that being personal property for which the intelligentsia open to being, truth or goodness, do not have to include any concession to rationalism. The manifestations of the personal are diverse and wide fertility, and on each unit of the personal being manifested. The way of existence "crosses" all constitutive levels of the human person not only cuts the person but gives an existential stability and a permanent unit. For the self, the person not only knows things but knows that he knows.
This reflexive function of consciousness by which we are able to "turn on" our own acts of knowledge and love, Augustine called it "memory of himself" in which one of the personal characteristics of greater spiritual depth is based. On the other hand, the freedom for which every human person governs its own destiny, the philosophical tradition discovered a crucial aspect of their dignity. Indeed, the person is not a reality already completed and closed but a "who" that is configured itself over time using their freedom.
Paradoxically the ontological incompleteness of the individual metaphysical root of the possibility of its development became. It is through the decisions of our freedom that our people can go "ending". Again, existential metaphysics of the person was the foundation of the ability to improve. (...)
